The
time after conference is rough. There are hundreds of emails to sort
through, no beautiful pool out my window, and no app to use to check in
to all my meetings. With 12 months until IPMA 16 in Colorado, it’s a bit
of a letdown.
But there are some great ways to keep the spirit of the conference alive throughout the year. Here are my top 10.
- Debrief with your leadership team – pass out copies of your notes, get in discussions about what you learned.
- Give copies of vendor literature to your production team and let them do some research on the products you saw.
- Get
involved with IPMA Exchange. It’s such a great resource to use and the
more we post, the better it will get. Here’s the link: http://community.ipma.org/home
- Contact
people who gave sessions with follow-up questions. There were so many
great sessions! I had to miss Abbas Badani’s session on Outsourcing to Increase Your Strategic Relevance, which I really wanted to see. I’m going to contact him soon so I can find out what I missed.
- Follow up with vendors. Let them know you appreciated them being there and learn more about the products they offer.
- Send
a note to your upper management thanking them for investing in you by
sending you to the conference. Let them know some specific things you’re
bringing back to your organization that will help them get a return on
that investment!
- Read the books! Here are a few of the books that were recommended that I have on order:
Blue Ocean Strategy by Renee Mauborgne and W. Chan Kim
The Goal by Eliyahu M. Goldratt and Jeff Cox
The Four Disciplines of Execution by Sean Covey
- Implement
the ideas you learned in your organization. We learned a lot in a short
amount of time. Think about the things you learned and pick one or two
to make a priority.
- If you haven't already, make time to fill out the conference survey and give us your ideas to make next year even better.
- Whenever you see a rubber chicken, smile and think of IPMA!
